I was born in North Dakota and raised in Manitoba. My father was a family doctor and my mother was a writer.
I loved to read as a kid. I had a favorite tree I used to climb to explore a brand new book.
I always had one or two books on the go and would read ANYWHERE :
I LIKE TO READ UP IN A TREE
OR STANDING ON MY HEAD
I READ ON BUSES, PLANES AND TRAINS
OR HIDING IN MY BED
(from “USE THIS BOOK AS WINGS“- coming soon!)
I became a doctor like my dad and worked and studied across Canada.
I loved writing as much as medicine – so I also took after my mother. I decided to pursue both careers and have never stopped!
I’ve written twelve books for adults on medicine, storytelling, history and wellbeing.
Even one bestseller on the History of Beards and Mustaches!
Here’s me in my office.
Here’s me on the Jimmy Fallon Show:
I wrote my very first kids’ book “WHAT ABOUT ME?” when I was a young doctor at McGill University. It was about the worries of a small girl when her brother gets seriously sick and the picture book was translated into Korean and Spanish.
Some of my books have had medical/psychological themes-like my book NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS – DREAM JOURNAL. Others have been zany and off the wall-like CHILL (on how to decorate your fridge so it lights up your kitchen!)
Listen to Dr. Allan Peterkin speak about “Dreams” on the Phil Parker Show (on SPREAKER)
Along the way, I became fluent in French and I wrote my first picture book in French this year. It’s about POUTINE!
Peacock and Sketch was chosen last year for SCREEN FREE WEEK in the US.
Here’s me reading from the book:
